I have permanent residency in NZ, what do I need to live in Australia?

Seeing you only have NZ permanent residency, and not citizenship, you are unable to get the special category visa so you need to apply for an Australian visa to be able to live and work there. See Australian Immigration for more information http://www.immi.gov.au/
