Is my daughter an Australian?

We moved to Australia in 1995 and our daughter was born in 1999. Does that class her as an Australian? We have came across a glitch trying to get an Aussie passport for her as we are going to New Zealand later this year. We were told that she had to have a citizen certificate and had to go through immigration online to get the right papers, just to prove that she has been living here since she was born.

Your daughter would only have been granted Australian citizenship at birth if either you or your husband were an Australian citizen or permanent resident when she was born.

However, if she has lived in Australia since birth, she will be entitled to citizenship by now as it is automatically granted after 10 years.

To get proof of her citizenship, follow these instructions: http://www.citizenship.gov.au/current/proof_of_citizenship/
