Can a British citizen with New Zealand permanent residency move to Australia?

Being a NZ permanent resident doesn't give you any status in Australia - only NZ citizenship. You can either apply for New Zealand citizenship and wait to move to Australia until you have this, or apply for a visa through the Australian immigration department.
