Moving back to Australia after 22 years with a Kiwi wife and two children aged 16 and 12.

Hi, my family and I would like to move from NZ to Rockhampton, where I come from and still have family. I have lived in New Zealand for 22 years. I am 51 and my wife is 53. We both take percription meds but are healthy. I came here as a cabinet maker and am qualified as a network support tech but currently work as a contract support supervisor outside both trades. I have been offered but not guaranteed employment with Indigenous minorities in Rockhampton. My wife does not work. We are looking to sell a flat we own and retain a mortgage on our current home until settled. We intend to rent at the start with the option of buying at a later date. One of our children is a grandchild which we have raised since birth. Can anyone give advice on foreseeable issues? Thank you, Red.

Hi Red, If you are an Australian citizen by birth then that should mean it is fairly easy for you and your family to move back to Australia. If your wife and children are Kiwis then they can live in Australia easily, but it would be a good idea for them to apply for Permanent Residency in Australia so they can access any social security payments that might be needed in future. They should be able to get family permanent visas without too much trouble seeing you are Australian born. You can find more information here: http://www.immi.gov.au/migrants/family/ Hope that helps :)
