I am working in QSLD under contract for a NZ company. Which country should I be paying tax to and which country's employment laws would apply?

Hi Joanna,

This would be a good question to speak to an accountant about, as it will depend on how long you are going to be working in Queensland and what other economic ties you have to New Zealand. I contracted for a NZ company while living in Australia and paid tax to the Australian government, but it would be good to double check your own situation. Before I moved to Australia I looked at the following info http://www.ird.govt.nz/yoursituation-nonres/tax-residency/ and filled out the NZ Tax Residence Questionnaire and sent it to the IRD: http://www.ird.govt.nz/forms-guides/title/forms-n/ir886-form-nz-tax-res.html?id=righttabs

Cheers, Grace
