How do I go about converting a New Zealand learners license to Australian? (Gold Coast)

I've just moved to Australia and I'm looking at going back to New Zealand to get my learners license because I got told it converts to p's here (not really sure if that's true) I want to know if it'll be easier for me to go home and get my learners then convert it to Australian or just do my license here. And what does New Zealand learners license convert to here in Australia
