Exchange on endowment surrender

We made the move twelve years ago and lost plenty on money transfer and I've decided to surrender a NZ endowment policy I've been paying by T/T worth $14000 net NZD. I do not have a NZ bank account so the company will probably want to pay me through the banking system where I will probably cough up some real dollars. Can I ask AMP to use a certain Forex dealer or is it out of my control? Many thanks and HNY Kiwis! Dave
