Does my credit rating in South Africa have any influence in Australian?
I am an Australian Citizen but I want to give up on paying mortgage debt in South Africa. I have been in Australia for almost 7 years and that’s how long I have been trying to sell a block of land that I bought a good 10 years ago with no success. The selling price is just what I owe on it resulting in all the years of payment going down the drain which is fine. But I just cannot afford to send $500 a month to South Africa anymore.
Will there be any repercussions to me here in Australia or when I travel elsewhere like the US because of a bad credit rating in South Africa? Can the bank in South Africa do anything to me like legally recouping the cost from me here?
