Am I able to leave Australia with a criminal record against my name even though I am a Kiwi?

I am a New Zealand citizen and I have lived in Australia for 9 years. I have just been charged with malicious damage to a window and am now facing a criminal record. If I do have a criminal record against my name am I still able to travel outside of Australia?

I am fairly confident you can. I know someone who did the opposite. Aussie in NZ with record. Returned home. No questions asked.
