Can i get back into and out of NZ with bad debt

I have lived in Australia for 3yrs and no i have bad debt in my home country New Zealand, will i be stopped at the airport and refused entry, or stopped and not beable to leave NZ becuase of this. It is not owed to IRD, child support etc it was a personal loan.. (they have sent me notificatin that if i didnt pay it, that it may well mean I cannot visit New Zealand and then leave because of our debt action. (I had paid half of the debt off)
