Renting in Sydney without Employment

If you move over to Sydney without a job lined up (alot of employment agencies want to meet with you before they refer you to employers) how do you go about renting a property? I hear that rental agencies would like documentation of 3 months employment. Also what kind of fees do rental agencies charge to rent a property?

Hi Lynn,

It is difficult to find a property to rent without proof of income, so most people stay in temporary accommodation until they have a job lined up. I haven't heard that agencies required 3 months of employment history though. When we've rented apartments in Melbourne they have just called our employers to check that we have the jobs we said we had.

We've never had to pay letting fees to rental agencies in Melbourne, I think the property owners usually pay those in Australia. Tenants have to pay a few weeks rent up front (usually 4) plus the bond.

Can someone tell me were I get a RTA form from? And can I fill it out on line?
