Qualifications for a tradesman (tiler) in Australia

My partner and I are looking to move to Aus in July this year. He is a tiler and has been for 15 years but is self taught. How do we get on without qualifications on paper? What would be our first step? Thanks

make sure you take employer references from his jobs...his employer will need to write a detailed reference stating how long he worked there, what tasks he performed independently and supervised, if he did any formal training on-the-job, any certificates he may have gained along the way. This will be enough to submitt to trades recognition australia. He should then be given an australian trades certificate. In saying that if the evidence he provides is not enough, they may require him to do a practical assesment and assess his skills that way. visit trades recognition australia, they will be able to help.
