Advice of moving a family of 5 to Melbourne

Myself, my 2 children aged 4.5 and 9 and my two parents who are retired would like to know what is best way to move us all over there. Do we take some furniture, do we take all of our furniture or buy new at Ikea?
My sister lives in Melbourne in an apartment which would be too small to house us for any length of time, we intend to rent a large house, is it advisable to wait until we arrive in Melbourne to find a place to live?
