Can NZ residents (not citizens of NZ, but of UK) work in Australia?

residency is irrelevant. citizenship is the requirement

I believe you can live and work in Aus. with the above(i.e. residency in NZ as a UK citizen) but you still have to have a visa. We are in the same situation and are just now trying to find out which visa you need. Anyone?
