Is AU superannuation compulsory?

I moved to Brisbane 2 weeks ago and have successfully landed a job! They've sent through all the information I need as a newbie and it contains a whole packet on superannuation? I'm only 19 and I cant fully wrap my head around it. I do plan on heading home eventually so I don't know if I should open a super account, or if I have too?
