Renting in Melbourne!

What is the best way to go about renting a place in Melbourne?
I am looking for something in the South Yarra/St Kilda area, prefer furnished until we are settled.
Does anyone have a real estate agent we could contact?

Hi Sash,
Renting in Melbourne, especially in South yarra/ St kilda, is super competitive. Locals have a hard time finding rentals, let alone, those sought after areas. Most kiwis end up being accepted for rents close to the the west areas of Melbourne, or like me, ending up in a shared house closer to the cbd.
A few things that can make you stand out more:
- proof of income or proof of assets in NZ
- proof of job and salary in aus
It’s hard to find rental without already establishing proof of job, but if you can show them you have a good supply of cash, it should be easy.
That’s just my experience! My friend has gotten a single room apartment in the city, unfurnished, with little income and a hospitality job. Perhaps you can expand your choices in the city?
