If my son does Year 10 in Australia, will it count for NCEA points in New Zealand?

My son is currently year 9 in Australia and we're moving to New Zealand in 2017. I'm aware that NCEA starts in year 11 in New Zealand and ATAR doesn't start until year 11 in Aus. There is a one year difference in years between the countries, Aus being a year lower than NZ. This means that he will not be doing ATAR or NCEA next year. Will his work done next year in Australia count towards and NCEA points the year after?
