• Where is a good short term accommodation place to stay at?

  Planning to move December 2011 (get away from these damned quakes!) Don't want one that is too expensive but do have a dog who will be joining us in Aus. Also what's the best suburb to live in?

• Is 4 weeks rent and 4 weeks bond standard for getting into a place in Melbourne? I have heard it can take 6 weeks for your TFN to arrive, can you work before you get one?

• Looking for a short-term place to stay in Melbourne

  Any recommendations about the best place/s to stay (like a backpackers in NZ), when first arriving in Melbourne? We'd want a base to work from while flat-hunting, an address for mail and a contact-point. Any idea of costs would be appreciated.
